What is Hemp Seed Oil?

Hemp seed oil is a natural oil that is extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant, a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant species. It is not to be confused with Cannabidiol oil (CBD) which is highly regulated and prohibited. Hemp seed oil contains very little or no CBD and is produced in a different way - using only the seeds and NOT the flowers, stalks, and leaves like in CBD oil.

To produce hemp seed oil, the seeds of the hemp plant are cold pressed to extract the oil. This process is similar to how olive oil is produced. The cold pressing process helps to preserve the nutrients and beneficial compounds in the oil, such as omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and vitamins and minerals.

The resulting oil is a rich green in colour. This colour can vary from batch to batch and is the reason why sometimes Tasmanian Gold Solid Lotion Bars can appear a slightly different shade from time to time. It's just the natural variation of the plant oils.

Environmental benefits

Hemp seed oil has a number of environmental benefits. One of the main benefits is that it is a sustainable and renewable resource. Hemp is a fast-growing plant that can be grown in a variety of climates and soil types, and it requires minimal water and pesticides to thrive. In addition, hemp is a carbon negative crop, which means that it absorbs more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere during its growth than it emits. This makes it a valuable tool in the fight against climate change.

Health Benefits

Many people prefer to ingest Hemp seed oil for its many health benefits - I highly recommend Hemp seeds (or Hemp Hearts as they are sometimes called) as an addition to your morning porridge! Here are a few reported benefits:

  1. Rich in Omega-3 and Omega-6 Fatty Acids: Hemp seed oil contains a balanced ratio of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, which are essential for overall health and well-being. These fatty acids help to reduce inflammation, improve heart health, and support brain function.

  2. Supports Heart Health: Hemp seed oil is a good source of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which has been shown to help lower the risk of heart disease by reducing cholesterol levels and reducing blood pressure.

  3. Supports Brain Function: The Omega-3 fatty acids found in hemp seed oil have been shown to have positive effects on brain health and cognitive function. They may also help to reduce the risk of depression and anxiety.

  4. Anti-inflammatory Properties: Hemp seed oil has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which can help to reduce inflammation in the body. This can be especially beneficial for people with conditions such as arthritis or other inflammatory conditions.

Skin benefits

Hemp seed oil also has a number of positive effects on skin. It is high in essential fatty acids including omega-3 and omega-6, which help to moisturize and nourish the skin. These fatty acids also help to reduce inflammation, which can be beneficial for conditions such as acne and eczema.

It is also high in antioxidants, which can help to protect the skin from environmental stressors such as pollution and UV radiation. These antioxidants help to neutralize free radicals, which are harmful molecules that can damage the skin and lead to premature aging.

In addition to essential fatty acids and antioxidants, hemp seed oil is also rich in other nutrients that are important for healthy skin. These include vitamins A, C, and E, as well as a number of minerals such as zinc, potassium, and magnesium. These nutrients help to nourish and protect the skin, and they can help to improve the overall appearance and health of the skin.

Hemp seed oil is also a good source of phytosterols, which are plant-based compounds that have a number of beneficial effects on the skin. Phytosterols help to reduce inflammation and improve the skin's barrier function, which can help to reduce the appearance of redness and dryness. They also have antioxidant properties that can help to protect the skin from environmental stressors.

It really is an excellent choice for those who are looking to improve the health and appearance of their skin.
